Welcome Hi. Thanks for stopping by. I'll warn you, I'm a history buff. But if you also like to step into the past, you may enjoy THE VISIONARIES and its sequel, GLORY ROAD. Thus, you will be able to relive what our early pioneers went through in settling the west and making this the wonderful country it is today. How it came about: As a non-fiction writer, I was researching for a book on the Oregon Trail and the settling of California by the early pioneers. My sympathy became involved in what the women went through. At that time it was the men who had the itchy feet to go west. Women had no choice. Men made the rules. Women had to abide. My heart went out to those brave women. Instead of a straight factual book, it seemed fictional characters could better bring to life what our pioneers went through. I had to write a novel. I chose 1846 because it was a pivotal time in our countries' history; a time of the great migration west, and the time of the Donner Party tragedy still considered one of the worst catastrophic happenings of the old west. It also was the year Mexico and the United States became involved in war that eventually resulted in the conquest of California by the U.S. Although the main characters in my story are fictitious, a family by the name of Dudley besieged with their own personal problems, true historical characters play a major role, such as members of the Donner Party who followed Hasting's ill-fated shortcut. All events are based on facts. **************************************************** A review posted at Barnes & Nobles and Amazon) 5 Stars. Historical fiction at its best. Historicals are my favorite reading and THE VISIONARIES was one of the best I've read. The authenticity of the characters and setting stemmed from what must have been exhaustive research. I can't wait for Bernice Curler's next book. Rosalie More, author of Allegiance and Honor Among Thieves ******************************************************* The reader gets so close to the characters, you feel their feelings. This is so good, in fact, that I learned more about California and pioneer's hardships from this book than I did in all of my schooling. Cindy Vernard, historian with degree in history from California State University at Northridge. ******************************************************* The talent Bernice Curler has for writing dialogue and evoking emotions is really powerful. The Visionaries is not only a vivid portrait of pioneering days, but also contains a very fitting message for women today, and I find that to be very inspiring.
