THE VISIONARIES
This is the story of three members of the Dudley family, each with a different vision of pioneering west to the Mexican province of California. For William, it is his dream of free land. For his romantic teenage daughter, Torrey, it is adventure and a hoped-for meeting with her fantasy caballero lover. But for Medora, William's beautiful, cultured wife, she knows the hardships in store. She's pioneered before; once in a lifetime should be enough! But the year is 1846, a time when a woman must acquiesce to her husband's will. Besides, Medora is indebted to William beyond the marriage vows. All these years he has kept her most shameful secret--that her first born child is not his. It's also a story of personal conflicts between mother and daughter, each trying to find her own way in a strange new world, a world that tears down all their preconceived notions of sexuality and culturally proscribed mores.

GLORY ROAD
California at last! Glory-be, we've finally arrived thinks Torrey Dudley as the adobe walls of Sutters Fort loom before them. The possibility of a free land grant has brought the Dudley family 2000 miles over arduous prairie and mountain travel. Her father's dream. But for romantic teenage Torrey, arriving in the Mexican Province of California means a hoped-for meeting with her fantasized dark-eyed caballero lover. Except, now there is Steve, the American who had piloted them down the last stretch of mountains. But it is also about political intrigues as U.S. takes over the Mexican Province of California and the Dudley family is separated by the war. Later, William Dudley is involved in the rescue of the survivors of the Donner Party and learns some ugly truths. A visit for Torrey with her father to a Californio rancho during slaughter and fiesta time, she meets her caballero. Now, what about Steve? And what is the results when Torrey, riding the California foothills is witness to a murder over a shiny morsel of gold?

Mazie's Red Garter
Originally written as a one act play 1962, it was performed in Carmichael, California by the Carmichael Elk players. It's success took it to Lake Tahoe and then performed two successive years for Placerville, California's Wagon Train Days celebration. Later, rewritten as a two-act play, in 1997 it had a successful run in Shady Cove, Oregon performed by Rogue Valley Stage Productions.

A musical comedy set in the past, but not exactly true history.

Singing and dancing advance the story.

* * * * *

Two cowboys, a minor and the sheriff enter and step to the bar. Puny Pauly, the saloon sweeper, enters with his broom. He stops to admire the sheriff's guns and states someday he's going to be a tough hombre just like the sheriff. Enters Widder Mite dragging in a preacher by a rope. Tagging along, looking big-eyed and amazed, is Glady Lou. Widder eyes the men at the bar and states she is looking for a husband for her Glady Lou. But Glady Lou has spotted Puny. "I want that one," she states. The plot thickens when Dead Eye bursts into the saloon, and Widder eyes him as a possible prospect. The question stands--Will Widder find a husband for her Glady Lou? Will Puny Pauly have a chance to prove his mettle?
